While Super Metroid is for many the definitive entry in the franchise, Metroid 2 was a chapter with a lot of significance and its ending would later set the stage for Super.
“Another Metroid 2 Remake” is a fan project that’s been in development for years. Don’t let the name fool you, this isn’t just “another” Metroid 2 remake. It’s the one and only. Most other endeavors were cancelled along the way, but DoctorM64 (the author of AM2R) is the only one who soldiered on tirelessly until it was complete.
The remake itself is a masterpiece. Translating the original gameboy graphics into the Zero Mission tileset took a lot of vision. A tremendous amount of custom sprites were created, and it even sports a remastered version of the original soundtrack!
The controls are tight. It boasts several quality of life improvements to Metroid 2 that were present in Super Metroid and in Zero Mission, and even quite a few new ones. You can pick and choose your favorite control schemes, too!
This game is complete and available NOW! I encourage any Metroid fans to get it.
Metroid’s 30th anniversary was August 6th 2016 and Nintendo didn’t do much to acknowledge it. Without this wonderful gift from such a dedicated fan, I would have been devastated. Instead, I’m overjoyed 🙂
